Harris Hill Volunteer Fire Company
Clarence, New York
The new building was constructed to replace an outdated facility, relieve congested apparatus bays and correct a variety of other functional deficiencies. The design concept separates the new facility into two simple forms consisting of apparatus room functions in the first and support functions in the second, connected with a common entrance and lobby. New building features include full glass overhead doors, drive-through bays, a new computer lab, training room (fully equipped with audio and video technology components) office space, board room, locker rooms, and an exercise room.
Collaborative effort between owner and architect has resulted in the first LEED certified municipal building in Western New York. The new "green" building is expected to save 40% in energy costs, compared to a traditionally designed facility.
