Buffalo Futures Academy No. 37
Buffalo, New York
The complete renovation of School No. 37 was part of the second phase of the Buffalo Board of Education Reconstruction Project. Providing improved educational spaces and creating a modernized, student-centered learning environment is the primary objective of the project. This has been accomplished, in part, by the relocation of specialty classroom spaces such as art, technology and home and careers. Additionally, the projects required approval from the New York State Historic Preservation Board in conjunction with the stringent requirements of the State Education Department and New York State Building Codes. The building was brought into compliance with accessibility standards, including a new elevator. Other improvements consisted of restoration of all exterior windows, major kitchen and cafeteria enhancements and extensive mechanical, electrical and plumbing work. A distinctive design feature at School No. 37 is a new courtyard with a park-like play area.
